Polish Temporary Residence Permit: Application & Requirements

Simplify Your Stay in Poland: Residence Permit Assistance for Students

As an international student in Poland, securing a Temporary Residence Card (Karta Pobytu) is essential for legal stay during your studies and offers numerous benefits.

What is the Temporary Residence Card?

The Temporary Residence Card (Karta Pobytu) is an official document that grants non-EU citizens the right to reside in Poland for a period exceeding three months. For students, it is typically issued for the duration of their studies, up to a maximum of three years. This card serves both as a residence permit and an identification card, allowing holders to travel freely within the Schengen Area for short stays.

Advantages of the Temporary Residence Card for Students:

Legal Stay: Official authorization to reside in Poland throughout your academic program.
Travel Freedom: Access to Schengen Area countries without additional visas.
Employment Opportunities: Eligibility to work up to 20 hours per week during semesters and full-time during holidays.
Healthcare Access: Entitlement to medical services within Poland.

TRC FAQs

Applications must be submitted in person at the voivodeship office competent for your place of residence in Poland. For example, if you reside in Warsaw, you should apply at the Mazowieckie Voivodship Office.
It is recommended to submit your application at least 45 days before the expiry of your current legal stay in Poland, such as a visa or previous residence permit. Submitting the application earlier can help avoid any gaps in your legal stay.
If you have a valid visa or residence permit that allows employment, you may continue working while your TRC application is pending.
The decision on granting a temporary residence permit legalizes your stay in Poland, but it is not a document entitling you to cross the border.
A temporary residence permit cannot be extended. If you wish to stay in Poland after the permit expires, you must apply for a new permit. It is advisable to submit the application at least 45 days before the expiry of your current permit.
